Academy History

New England Karate Academy was founded in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts in April of 1995 by chief instructor and now 10th degree Grand Master Alan D'Allessandro and business partner and instructor James Margosian and since then it has become one of the best and most successful karate academies in Central Massachusetts.

Grand Master D'Allessandro began studying the martial arts in 1984 in Worcester, Massachusetts.  He has spent many years teaching both adult and children's classes as well as competing and judging on the open karate circuit in New England.   In the same year that New England Karate Academy was opened, he began studying under world and national sport karate champion Rocky Dirico in Arlington, Massachusetts.  This training provided him with a tremendous amount of knowledge in the disciplines of forms and weapons.

In 1996 Rocky Dirico introduced him to the late 10th degree Grandmaster Nick Cerio, one of the most renowned figures in Kenpo Karate.  A few weeks later, after an extensive interview, Grandmaster Cerio accepted him as a private student.  This was a prestigious and challenging honor reserved for the best martial artists.  Studying under Grandmaster Cerio, Grand Master D'Allessandro's self defense skills and knowledge of the art were greatly advanced.  He is currently studying under Grandmaster Don Rodrigues.

Grand Master D'Allessandro has also published several books and CD's on the subject of self-defense that are available on Amazon.com and other online book websites.

Since the Academy opened, its martial arts experience, commitment to excellence, and skillful teaching methods have been proven through continued growth of the academy and the success of its students in open tournament competition.  Several of the academey's students have held regional and national titles in fighting, forms, weapons and self defense.

New England Karate Academy in 1997 formed a demonstration team consisting of several well disciplined and highly skilled students.  The purpose of this team was to give students the opportunity to showcase their skills outside of tournament competitions and educate the public about the benefits of martial arts training.  The team provides an interesting, exciting and informative demonstration free of charge to any interested organization.

The academy looks forward to continued growth, stability and success in the future.  Our philosophy is and will always be to provide the best training for our instructors, and then pass it on to our students at affordable prices.  We invite you to call or come in to visit us anytime.
